Nick Kristof
What is the one simple thing you do during the summer – your summer simplicity - that brings you joy every year?
Our family tradition is going backpacking along the Pacific Crest Trail, usually in Oregon. Sometimes it’s just a few days, sometimes a week or more. But it’s a chance to escape email and cell phones and just have a wonderful time getting exhausted together.
What is one of your best childhood summertime memories?
My parents took me to Europe when I was 12, for the entire summer. We traveled from London to Romania and had a spectacular time.
Where do you go in the summer to unplug and recharge?
Our family usually retreats to Oregon, where I grew up. We stay with my mother on the farm that I grew up on.
What is your favorite summer meal?
Gazpacho, of course.
