Last weekend, Maria Shriver joined more than 1,600 riders — along with 119 members of Team Maria — at the Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle.
Maria co-chaired this year’s event with Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom. The event raised more than $4.5 million for Best Buddies’ life-changing programs, $400,000 of that coming from Team Maria participants.
Started by Anthony Shriver in 1989, Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization that creates opportunities for friendship, employment and leadership development for people with intellectual disabilities.
After the ride, Maria had a chance to talk to Team Maria rider and Entertainment Tonight co-anchor Nancy O’Dell about Best Buddies, her family’s legacy of service, and the importance of inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities.
