4 Tips for Dreaming and Creating Your Resolutions for 2018

Happy 2018, everyone!

As many of us know, our resolutions for the new year can sometimes dry out by the end of February. At that point, we may find ourselves running out of steam and stamina to make the changes we want to see in our world happen. Some of us then slip back into our old sabotaging ways, and all of those beautiful goals and inspirations are put back in boxes and forgotten. For that reason, I decided to help you along a bit this year with four key tips for success you may want to keep handy while planning your resolutions for this year.

Awhile back — after a very challenging chapter in my life — I used each of the steps below to help me back on a path of success. In doing so, I gained a sense of fulfillment and a greater sense of myself. These were just as important to me as my financial rewards, which you will hear repeatedly from successful people who love making money, but ultimately want to feel fulfilled. As Albert Einstein said, “Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.”

4 Tips for Success in 2018

1.) Know your purpose: This comes from expanding upon what you truly love doing. What are you driven and excited about? What doesn’t feel like work? When you are on track and feel aligned and true to your passions, that is when you will feel fulfilled. That is when you will thrive and be successful.

2.) Trust your intuition: Steve Jobs once said, “Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” You have an inner voice (a sense) that helps you make choices. Don’t discount it. This voice guides you to understand the reaction you have when something feels a bit “off” or a situation or event feels extremely good. Again, feel If you notice you are continually coming home miserable from work and not thriving; this is your inner voice telling you to make a change. Believe it and trust.

3.) Stay calm and resilient: When chaos and drama are around you, don’t buy into them. Everything is temporary, including stress. Stay resilient and watch your reactions to situations that may trigger you. When you overreact, you drain your vital energies and the hormone cortisol puts you in a survival mode. This creates confusion (and weight gain). Practice pausing before you react. Breathe, get clear, and move into “not minding” situations and learn from them.

4.) Be committed to your life: Elon Musk says, “I think it is possible for ordinary people to choose to be extraordinary.” You always have choices for how you want to create your reality. That includes your lifestyle, wellness, relaxation, as well as work. Success comes when you balance your work and personal life and create priorities. Be committed to your success and override those fears of rejection or feelings that you’re a fraud. Use them to motivate and drive you. Most of all, stay curious. As Louise Hay once said, “I choose to make the rest of my life the best of my life.”

In addition, remember this: writer William Arthur Ward once said, “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it.” This statement underlies much of how we either succeed or fail at keeping our resolutions. Use your imagination to truly create what feels right for you. Visualize and really feel the outcome of your creation/goal, so that you can eat, breathe and become this new reality. Doing so is the key to your success. These new beliefs reprogram your brain to believe you are having a new successful experience, making you less likely to sabotage yourself.

When you set your goals and resolutions for 2018, choose those aspirations that will give help you work toward something that you LOVE doing — a place where you are not overworking, but working passionately on something that comes easy for you. Remember, there is no sacrifice attached to your goal or resolution; it is not meant as a punishment. When you are choosing to follow a healthy diet and exercise, this is not a sacrifice. It’s a trade-off and choice for making a change, feeling more vibrant, losing some weight, and having more energy to accomplish what you want.

Finally, remember Lucille Ball’s statement, “I’d rather regret the things I’ve done than regret the things I haven’t done.” If you don’t give it a go, you will never know what could have been. Enjoy this year, love your life and live your purpose.
